How to Write a Film Critique Essay

How to Write a Film Critique EssayFilm criticism is just as much a part of filmmaking as writing a good script. To be able to write a well written critique essay, one has to have basic knowledge on how to do so.A sample film critique essay is supposed to be able to impart information that helps the viewer get more pleasure out of the film. In other words, it should help the viewer to be drawn into the film without him even knowing what it is. As such, the essay has to be informative enough and should not be something that a non-professional will be able to understand.Since, film criticism is done in an effort to entertain people, a film critic should make sure that what he says is not only entertaining but also factual. This means that while he is critiquing a movie, he should first find out what the film actually is and then decide whether or not he feels that the film is good. It should be noted that one cannot criticize a movie merely based on its box office or its reviews. Thus, it is important that the film he critiques is good enough to merit his own opinion about it.To be able to make a positive character about a film, the critic should know about the main characters. In case the character in question does not seem to have any purpose in the movie, a critique must be negative. While pointing out the flaws of the character, the critic should not bring down the whole movie for the faults of a single character. The writer should not only have an idea of what a movie is about, but also have an idea of what makes it interesting to watch. A common mistake made by amateur writers is to try to give reasons why the film is good. Since, the idea of a critic is to tell the audience why the film was good and not why it was bad, this can only end up hurting the viewer's mind.Writing a critique essay is not as easy as one may think. One should be aware of the fact that he or she is not only telling the viewers about why the film was good, but he or she is also trying t o guide the viewer through the movie. To be able to do this, he or she should use various techniques. For example, he or she should use descriptions of specific objects and characters in the movie, to show how they are used in the film. He or she should also use certain sentence structures so that he or she can deliver a clear message. For example, a simple critique would be something like: 'The film follows a similar theme with three different characters, and all of them act according to their emotional state.'By using different forms of narration, it will be easier for the reviewer to relay the message to the viewer. He or she should also make sure that his or her critique has a big impact on the viewer. This is the reason why he or she should never come across as condescending when critiquing a film.
